Arun (Mohan), a prominent singer is in jail with a death sentence looming over his head. He meets Shanthi (Revathi) during one of his concerts, and is followed by her on many occasions into the jail and outside too. He shows nothing but animosity towards her behavior, and keeps pushing her out of sight. But Shanthi is persistent and does not give up either. An inmate named Maari attempts to escape from jail, but he is stopped by Arun. Maari later tells Arun about his sick daughter (Shekhina Shawn), and his inability to pay for her operation. Arun sympathises with him, and promises to raise funds for the sick child through his next concert, which he also plans shall be his final one.

Thavasi (Vijaykanth) is an influential, do-good landlord in a small village, who commands respect from village. Thavasi and his wife (Jayasudha) arrange for the marriage of their son Boopathi (Vijaykanth) with Priyadarshini/Priya (Soundarya). Sankarapandi (Nassar) who had killed Thavasi's sister, after marrying her wants to marry his daughter (whom he had with his second wife) to Boopathi. Thanagarasu who is accused of stealing jewels commits suicide. Thangarasu's mother questions Thavasi's judgement. Thavasi decides to send Bhoopathi to his home. Maragathammal hates Boopathi and treats him like a dirt though Boopathi tolerates it. Sankarapandi wants his daughter to wed Bhoopathi. Boopathi unknown to Maragathammal saves Thanagarasu's dumb sister from Kottaiperumal and also reforms Kaarmegam which Karmegam reveals to Maragathammal in Boopathi's marriage. In the end, a goon who was supposed to be dumb blurts out the truth that Sankarapandi was responsible for the temple theft and he murdered Thanagarasu and made it to look like suicide. In the end, Bhoopathi unites with Priyadarshini.

Prabhu acting in duel role in the film. The story revolves around a professor named Professor Chandramouli (Prabhu Ganesan) experimented on transferring body soul from one body to another. Professor Chandramouli is married to Janaki (Kushboo). He got help from a student Aravind (Prabhu Ganesan) who is a bright student and a star in the school. The story flows when the two souls of professor and Aravind transferred and it makes uncomfortable to both parties and their girls. Meanwhile, a wealthy girl-abuser Baba (Nizhalgal Ravi) took professor's favorite student and sold her to a gang. However, soul changed professor and Aravind came to rescue her, where Baba flee from the police. Baba came to know about the miracle medicine that produced by professor to change souls and when soul changed professor and Aravind came to correct their souls at a cemetery. Professor gets chaged, but Aravind's soul went on to a cat. Baba came quickly and hit professor and Baba changed his soul to Aravind's body. Cat with Aravind's soul put into a nearby well and he flee with the miracle medicine. The new Aravind behave very differently and engaged in many bad activities. Finally, professor get to know about the change that happened. He finally found the miracle medicine which was hidden in the worshipped anthill. At last after series of events, Aravind's soul released from cat and Baba's soul trapped within a chicken. In between these scences, there are some comedy scenes between Josiyar (Goundamani), who is married to two wives and his friend Senthil. , which is a very shortened version of the (Madhu +2) stage play which is written by Crazy Mohan who also wrote this story .

Sethu (Kamal Haasan) and Ranjani (Rekha) arrive at a cliff where they plan to commit suicide due to the pressure put up by Ranjani's parents against their marriage. Sethu who is the son of an ordinary drunkard cook (Delhi Ganesh) and is also a dancer is not accepted as groom for Ranjani by her parents. The parents threaten Ranjani that either they would kill Sethu or commit suicide. While jumping from the cliff Sethu accidentally gets trapped in a tree and escapes but Ranjani dies. Despite the attempts made by Ranjani's father to jail Sethu by framing a fault case that Sethu killed Ranjani, no strong evidence was there to prove it. He is jailed for the offence of attempted suicide for one year.

Divya Chandramouli is a free-spirited college student from a conservative family. Her father works for the government and is very strict about her conduct. One day, Divya learns of a marriage proposal for her, which her parents are eagerly awaiting. Unwilling to get married, and hoping the groom's family will reject her, she deliberately arrives home late. To her surprise, the groom, Chandrakumar, and his family are patiently waiting for her. Divya talks arrogantly to Chandrakumar in an attempt to make him dislike her, but an undeterred Chandrakumar says that he likes her and agrees to the marriage. Divya initially refuses, but when her father suffers a heart attack, the family pleads with her to accept the proposal so that he can recover quickly. Suriya (Radha), a student wishes to get a very popular singer, Shankar (Mohan) to sing in her college festival. Initial attempts to meet Shankar prove futile as he is a recluse. Nonetheless, she breaks into his home to meet him but is shocked to discover him in an inebriated state. She makes efforts to make him sober and come to the festival.
