Darkon premiered and won the Best Documentary Audience Award at the 2006 South By Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival in Austin, Texas. Darkon is an official selection playing at Hot Docs, Maryland Film Festival, Silverdocs, LA Film Festival, Britdoc and Melbourne International Film Festival.
The film was produced by Ovie Entertainment and SeeThink Films.
John Hodgman was hired to write a scripted film adaptation of the documentary. However plans fell through, but an excerpt of the unproduced screenplay was read on his podcast Judge John Hodgman.

King Kelly is a teenage webcam porn performer, reveling in the attention and tips from her assorted admirers. Away from the webcam, she films herself constantly with her cellphone's camera, while also being paid to transport drugs around Long Island. Strawberry Fields points out that strawberries grown in Gaza are the only agricultural product marketed internationally as being of Palestinian origin. One of the major Gaza strawberry farms in located at Beit Lahiya. More than 1,500 tons of strawberries are exported from Gaza to Europe through the Israeli company Agrexco. In order to get overseas, however, the fruits need to pass through the checkpoint that separates Israel and Gaza. The 2005–2006 growing season coincided with the Israel's disengagement from Gaza and the rise of Hamas as the ruling political entity. The armed conflict between Israel and Hamas resulted in the closing of the border checkpoint. The strawberries grown at Beit Lahiya cannot leave Gaza, resulting in significant losses for the farmers and their Agrexco partners. Unable to transport their produce, the farmers have no choice but to dispose of their crop and prepare for the following year’s growing season.

L'histoire se déroule au début des années 1930. Zishe, garçon naïf qui n'était jamais sorti de son village juif, est tout d'abord intimidé par Hanussen mais finit par se rebeller contre son imprésario et, un soir, refuse de jouer les Siegfried en révélant sa judéité au public durant un spectacle.
