It was immensely popular, earning 6 million RMB in its first week and more than 23 million RMB (US$3 million) in total box office in Mainland China, despite its low budget (3 million HKD/US$400,000) and cast of unknowns. The movie was shot digitally on HD cameras and produced as part of Andy Lau's "FOCUS: First Cuts" series.
Synopsis
A Chongqing, les employés d’une vieille usine au bord de la faillite découvrent dans les toilettes une grande pierre précieuse : un morceau de jade inestimable. Ils décident d’organiser une expo-vente, afin de récupérer leurs salaires impayés depuis longtemps.Des voleurs professionnels se présentent alors dans la ville, très intéressés par cet objet précieux. Une équipe chinoise, menée par Frère Dao (Liu Hua), est en concurrence avec une équipe étrangère menée par M. Mark (Teddy Li Wai Kin). Hélas pour eux, ils vont vite découvrir que M. Bao (Guo Tao) le responsable de sécurité des lieux, est un adversaire fort coriace…Acteurs

The film is set in the 1930s in Changchun, capital of Manchukuo. A thief (Lei Jiayin) goes into a cathedral and robs the priest (Fan Wei), claiming that he is a member of the underground revolution. As he is running away, the police capture him. Meanwhile, two rebels go to a cinema to exchange messages, but a genius Japanese general (Keiichi Yamasaki) kills one and captures the other. The thief is given leniency and spends only two days in jail. Sharing a cell with him is the captured rebel, who gives him his clothes as a gift.

The plot follows four seemingly separate stories that intersect and converge at points throughout the movie. It begins with the protagonist, Geng Hao losing first place in a cycling race and subsequently being tricked into sponsoring an energy drink containing illegal performance-enhancing substances by corrupt businessman Li Fala which causes him to forfeit the winnings from his silver medal. Disgraced and outlawed from ever participating again in the sport, Geng Hao's coach suffers from a heart attack, prompting Geng Hao to seek retribution from Li Fala, who he believes is the cause.
