Synopsis
Ahmad (Cesar Montano) belongs to the Moro people people. While many of his kind are bent on fighting, thinking that Mindanao is only for the Muslims, Ahmad prefers to live a simple and peaceful life. He works as a doctor in Manila while his wife, Fatima (Amy Austria), and his only son, Ibrahim, stay in Mindanao with his mother, Farida (Caridad Sanchez). Ahmad is shocked and devastated when Fatima breaks the confounding news. Ibrahim was killed by a stray bullet when vigilantes indiscriminately fire at their village. Ahmad goes back to where he came from --- Mindanao.Acteurs

Fredo (Cesar Montano) is a fisherman who has endured more than his share of hardship in life; his wife and child both perished in a boating accident, and today Fredo approaches each trip to the sea with the angry determination of a man out for revenge. Fredo commands a crew of young people from poor families as he takes his rattletrap ship into the ocean in search of fish that live along the reefs, snaring catch with an illegal netting system. Not all of Fredo's youthful sailors are willing to put up with his abusive arrogance, however, and even his father Dado (Pen Medina) and close friend Botong (Jhong Hilario) have grown weary of Fredo's tirades. Fredo's body is beginning to betray him as well, and as he and his crew damage the sea's reef beds in search of fish, no one is certain how much longer he will be able to continue.

Joey comes home after nearly a decade of living in the States. With Joey back, the four friends find themselves complete again—they reminisce on the good old times, marvel at the changes in each other’s lives. Maritess, a widow, contends with the complexities of being a mother to independent, self-asserting young adults: Guia, who chooses to remain single despite her pregnancy; Bryan, who’s gay and proud of it; and Levi, whose floater’s ways hint at a yearning for something beyond what his present life can offer. Joey’s stay in the States changes her a great deal; the untamed child of twenty years ago has matured into a woman who has come to embrace humanity and life. But pain and death may be realities that Joey has yet to learn to accept---because of her mother Maggie, who is fighting a losing battle with cancer, and the main reason why she has come home. Bernadette persistently courts Bryan despite his openly gay orientation, only to have her heart broken by the futility of her feelings Guia staunchly refuses to get back together with the father of her child in her desire to assert her self-sufficiency, but later realizes that needing people is not necessarily a sign of weakness. The center of the drama is the young unmarried but pregnant Carmen Castro (Maricel Soriano) who during the first few minutes of the film informs her cousin Stella (Amy Austria). Stella scoffs and recommends abortion. The father of the child, Jerry, also recommends abortion. Her over religious landlady Juling (Charito Solis), who is busy juggling her religious aims and her legal quarrel with the poor families illegally living in her land, however strongly suggests that she keep the baby on the grounds that having an abortion would be a sin against God.
