Akeli is a 2014 Hindi film produced, written and directed by Vinod Pande. The film featured R. Madhavan in his first full-length role in a Hindi film, alongside danseuse Nandini Ghosal and Anupam Shyam. Despite being completed and censored in August 1999, the film remained unreleased before the makers chose to release it via YouTube in August 2014.

Shakti (Madhavan) is a young man from a village, with no job but much ambition and dreams. Sue McKinley (Alice Patten), une jeune londonienne, rêve depuis longtemps de réaliser un film d’après les mémoires de son grand-père, membre de la force de police britannique en Inde au début de la révolte indienne pour l’indépendance. Sue se rend à Delhi et, avec l’aide de sa correspondante indienne Sonia (Soha Ali Khan), tente de trouver les acteurs qui joueront le rôle des premiers révolutionnaires indiens. Le casting s’annonce désastreux et Sue finit par engager la bande de copains de Sonia : Karan (Siddarth), Sukhi (Sharman Joshi), Aslam (Kunal Kapoor), Laxman Pandey (Atul Kulkarni) et DJ (Aamir Khan), le meneur de la bande. Cependant ceux-ci ont du mal à comprendre les motivations de leur personnage, eux qui ne croient pas en l’avenir de ce pays corrompu à tous les échelons politiques. Dans ce pays où rien n’a réellement changé depuis l’Indépendance de l’Inde, comment peuvent-ils croire en l’engagement de ces premiers révolutionnaires ? Cependant l’interprétation de leur personnage dans le film de Sue, ainsi que l’événement dramatique survenu à leur ami Ajay (Madhavan), vont les amener à changer totalement et tous vont s’engager dans un combat très dangereux. Pour leur ami et pour changer leur pays et la sociétè de la corruption et de l'injustice ils ont sacrifié leur vie.

Sandhana Krishnan (Madhavan), also known as Sakhi works in an automobile company and lives in a joint family. He comes across a model named Priya and the two fall in love with each other. Eventually they get married. Here begins the story. Unlike that of Sakhi's family, Priya's family is 'cosmopolitan' and too outgoing. Her mother(Aishwarya), is a party going socialite, while her father(Pratap K. Pothen) restricts himself to his house and doesn't bother to have a social life of his own. Priya always goes out partying and doesn't spend much time with her family. Brought up in such a situation, Priya finds it hard to adjust to the family of Sakhi because his family doesn't like all this going out and partying stuff. They prefer to stay home and mix with family. Sakhi tries to make his wife understand the realities of life and the importance of family but is unsuccessful. After their honeymoon Priya gets pregnant. Sakhi is on top of the world but Priya has doubts as she feels shes too young to be a mother. Priya does not want the baby and she tells sakhi but sakhi tells her that the whole family is happy and if now he goes and tell them then they would be upset but priya says she doesn't care about them making sakhi angry and Sakhi fires her. She tells her mother about it, who insists shes too young and under a guise that one of her relatives is ill, takes Priya to the hospital for an abortion. Sakhi finds out in time and rushes to the hospital where a reluctant Priya is being pulled towards the abortion room by her mother. When he calls to her she turns but is hit by a stretcher in her abdomen. The story moves ahead with Priya finding her diary in Sakhis suitcase (he had stolen it at the beginning of the movie in order to woo her) accusing him of tricking her she leaves to her parents house. At the same time she wants a divorce but Sakhi wants the child. The judge presiding rules that Priya will have to have the baby. Sakhi moves into Priya's parents house with her in order to take care of his unborn child, claiming he doesn't trust them, they might try to abort his baby. Months pass and Priya has the baby. As it needs to be fed mothers' milk, Priya moves back in with Sakhis family for a period of two months. These two months find Priya getting closer to her baby then the day before the last, regretting her decision of leaving the house but convinced that Sakhi hates her, decides to go through with it. The next day her parents come to get her, her mother has already selected another husband for her.Sakhi acts unbothered and taking the baby tells her to leave. Halfway home Priya gets out of the car; her dad and herself finally stand up to her mother. She stands lost on the island in the middle of the road when Sakhi drives by,and then priya and sakhi ask forgiveness from each other and hug each other in the middle of the road and they both return home happily.

Natarajan (Delhi Ganesh) is a Brahmin house-owner near the Parthasarathy Temple looking for a right tenant for the upper portion of his house. Jagan (R. Madhavan) and Jamuna (Amoga) meet in a shopping mall in Chennai. They like each other and spend a day chatting in the coffee shop. Jamuna, a believer in destiny, writes down her address and telephone number on a Rs.100 note and makes the payment at the cafe declaring that if the note comes back to Jagan then it means that he was destined to meet her. He tries hard to trace the note but in vain. Jamuna goes back to Kolkata. Meanwhile Pooja (Pooja), who was rescued by Madhavan from some thugs, has a crush on him. Finally Jagan manages to get Jamuna address on the eve of her wedding and unites with her.
