Starring Richard Dix, it was similar to many of the period films that appeared to glorify the "knights of the air", but was more complex, examining the motivations of those who choose to go to war.
Synopsis
When the United States enters World War I, Nancy Adams (Elizabeth Allen) becomes a Red Cross nurse, while her fiancé, Rex "Rocky" Thorne (Richard Dix), registered as a conscientious objector, pursues his sculpting career. She mocks his pacifism and accuses him of cowardice. Thorne, in retaliation for her rejection and determined to prove his bravery, enlists and trains to become a fighter pilot. As part of the American Expeditionary Forces, he is, at first, a hesitant combat pilot until he encounters his first enemy aircraft and shoots it down. Renouncing his past, Thorne becomes completely committed to the war in the air, vowing to become the "ace-of-aces".Acteurs

Two Union officers, Captain Lewis Dumont and his younger brother, Lieutenant Henry Dumont, receive orders from General Ulysses S. Au cours des années 1920, le général Billy Mitchell entre en lutte avec l'État-major militaire qui, selon lui, sous-estime gravement le rôle futur de l'aviation. Il préconise même que l'aviation devienne une branche séparée à côté de l'U.S. Army et de la U.S. Navy. En outre, il doit faire la démonstration que des avions chargés de bombes peuvent couler un cuirassé. Après un premier échec, Mitchell outrepasse les ordres de l'armée en exécutant une seconde tentative qui anéantit un cuirassé en quelques secondes. Il est bientôt rétrogradé (mars 1925) au rang permanent de colonel et transféré à San Antonio (Texas). Après avoir écrit de nombreux courriers aux autorités militaires, essayé de rencontrer le général John Pershing, appris la disparition en vol de plusieurs de ses hommes, Mitchell décide de convoquer la presse afin de dénoncer « l'incompétence et la criminelle négligence du Ministère de la Guerre ». Il n'ignore pas que ces allégations le conduiront en Cour martiale. Il les soutient, pourtant, afin de défendre publiquement son opinion sur l'extrême nécessité de moderniser l'aviation.
