The film features Dhanush, Amala Paul in the lead roles, while Vivek, Saranya Ponvannan, Samuthirakani and Surabhi play supporting roles.
Dhanush, besides acting, producing and distributing the venture in association with Escape Artists Motion Pictures, also worked as the lyricist and album producer on the film's original soundtrack with composer Anirudh Ravichander, who also composed the film's background score. The film focuses on Raghuvaran, a graduate who is unemployed for four years, and how he gets a job, whilst successfully overcoming various obstacles before and after finding employment.
Principal photography commenced in August 2013 and was completed by May 2014, with the film being shot primarily in Chennai. The film was released on 18 July 2014, and received positive critical reception. The film grossed ₹ 190.8 million on its opening weekend and earned a worldwide collection ₹ 530 million during its lifetime run. The film was dubbed into Telugu as Raghuvaran B.Tech, which was released on 1 January 2015.

This story begins with Chinna Vandu's (Dhanush) brothers Paranjothi and Paranthavan (Sriman and Sathyan) who are not yet married, despite their old age. Chinna Vandu, who studied in his uncle's son home, falls in love with Vanaroja (Nazriya Nazim) who comes there to visit her Grandma (Sachu) and see the village festival. The officials of the casino suspect Rande and arrest him . Karthick, with his money won in the gambling with Panda, Sathish and Priya, escape and go back home. Shreya helps Rande to escape from guards by the saying of Kumar. Rande traces Karthick and takes him to his place. There Karthick using his power to fight Rande's sidekicks and threatens Rande with his own gun. At that time a Rolls-Royce Phantom comes and is revealed that the unknown man Kumar is Kokki Kumar(Dhanush) and ask Karthik to play for him in Politics.
