Kanyaka Talkies (Malayalam: കന്യകാ ടാക്കീസ്, English translation: Virgin Talkies) is an Indian film. It is the debut feature film by K R Manoj, national award winning documentary film maker. The movie revolves around a B-grade movie theatre of the 80s and 90s. While weaving a gripping story around the transformation of the theater into a church, Kanyaka Talkies delves deep into the matrix of body, desire, pleasure and guilt.The film passes through the less traveled landscapes of regional cinema and presents an intimate portrayal of its history and contemporary. Kanyaka Talkies is based on a story by P. V. Shajikumar. The film uses Sync sound technology. Location sound of the film is handled by the National Award winning recordist Harikumar Madhavan Nair and sound design is done by Luxembourg-based sound artist Rajivan Ayyappan.
Kanyaka Talkies was the opening film of the Indian Panorama at the 44th International Film Festival of India at Goa. It was also selected to the competition section of the 15th edition of the Mumbai International Film Festival, Bengaluru International Film Festival, Pune International Film Festival and in the Malayalam Cinema Today section of the 18th International Film Festival of Kerala. Kanyaka Talkies has received the International Critics Prize (FIPRESCI Prize) for Best Malayalam Film at the 18th International Film Festival of Kerala for its succinct and poignant dealing of the politics of Cinema, human desire and religion. Forbes India magazine has selected it as one of the five must watch Indian movies in 2014.

It is a hundred years since Charlie Chaplin, artist nonpareil, appeared on the silver screen mesmerising audiences across the globe. His signature moustache and derby that have left their indelible imprint on the annals of film history. Buddhanum Chaplinum Chirikkunnu is a film that pays homage to Chaplin at the centennial commemoration of his acting career. The film portrays an Indian comedian, Indragupthan, who idolises Chaplin. He believes his life resembles Chaplin's and nurtures the desire to depict his hero on the big screen. However, he rules out a blind imitation of the late legend. The narrative revolves around his disintegrating family life and his quest for true love. The dilemma that ensues is the crux of the story. In the struggle to discover himself Indragupthan is entrapped in a world of make belief. The film is a unique marriage of the serious and the comic - one complementing the other. Indragupthan realises finally that the wheel of life has left him stranded in the twilight zone between real and unreal.

The story revolves around P.K. Jayan aka 'Vattu' ('mad') Jayan (played by Indrajith), Roy Joseph aka Che Guevera Roy (played by Murali Gopy) and Kaitheri Sahadevan (played by Hareesh Peradi). Jayan is a corrupt policeman, Roy a communist who now teaches in a school with his wife and Sahadevan a megalo-maniacal communist leader. When Roy and two of his friends expose Sahadevan's corruption, the two friends are mysteriously murdered; Roy is spared, probably because of his high-ranking friends and his old 'friendship' with Sahadevan. After Roy dies of a medical condition, Jayan discovers the story of this old friendship. Sahadevan and Roy had once worked together, before Roy's idealism and Sahadevan's use of violence and trickery soured their relationship. In one scene, Sahadevan tells Roy about his painful childhood, claiming that his actions are aimed at ensuring that his children do not suffer as his ancestors did. Jayan finally discovers that Sahadevan had once hired goons to attack Roy, maiming him for life and leading to his death. In his anger, he attacks and stabs Sahadevan.

Set in late 1950s the film uses the symbols of Serpentine Worship and socio political rebellions during that period of time to create an ambience for storytelling.
