It stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, Prabhu Deva, Genelia D'Souza, Amol Gupte, Jagathy Sreekumar, Nithya Menon, and Alexx O'Nell in the lead roles while featuring Tabu, Arya and Vidya Balan in extended cameos. The soundtrack features songs by Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri and Rafeeq Ahammed, as well as composer Deepak Dev.
The film is set in the early 16th century, when the Portuguese sailors dominated the Indian ocean. The story follows Chirakkal Kelu (Prithviraj) - determined to avenge death his father at the hands of the sailors - and his cohorts such as Vavvali of Nagapattinam (Prabhu Deva), princess Ayesha of Arackel (Genelia D'Souza) and princess Bala of Chirakkal (Nithya Menon). The plot intervenes with the royal intrigues of the Chirakkal Royal House - where Kelu serves as the commander - in - chief - and the assassination of prince Bhanu Vikraman (Ankur Khanna). Historical figures such as Estêvão da Gama, Vasco da Gama and Chenichery Kurup play pivotal roles in the film.
The film was made on a budget of more than ₹20 crore (US$3 0 million), making it the second-most expensive Malayalam film at the time, after Gokulam Gopalan's Pazhassi Raja (2009). The film also marked the debut of Prithviraj Sukumaran as producer. Urumi was released in Tamil as Urumi: Padhinaintham Nootrandu Uraivaal was written by Sasi Kumaran and was dubbed in Telugu with the same title Urumi.
The film was a commercial success at the box-office. It won two Kerala State Film Awards, for Best Background Music (Deepak Dev) and for Best Sound Recordist (M. R. Rajakrishnan).
Synopsis
From the executives of Nirvana Group, Krishna Das (Prithviraj Sukumaran) learns that his ancestral property in Kerala, leased out to a non-governmental organisation (NGO) by his late-grandfather, is rich in minerals and is free to be sold as the lease period has expired. The multinational mining company [Nirvana Group] offers him a large sum of money as advance. The NGO currently runs a tribal school in the land property, which is situated inside the Kannadi Forest Range. When Krishna Das and his friend Thanseer (Prabhu Deva) reach the plot, they are kidnapped by the local tribal men to a cave deep in the forest. Krishna Das meets their chief Thangachan (Arya) in the cave. Thangachan explains to him that he is the descendant of certain Chirakkal Kelu Nayanar.Acteurs

Prudhvi (Nitin Kumar Reddy) & Shashank (Shashank) are the leaders of two warring students groups in a Hyderabad college. Dans la Chine du début du XVIII siècle, Li Mu Bai est un virtuose des arts martiaux. Las des combats, il décide de confier « Destinée », son épée légendaire, à Shu Lien, une amie de longue date avec qui il a vécu de nombreuses aventures et à qui il n'ose pas avouer son amour. Celle-ci doit remettre la fameuse épée au seigneur Te, à la résidence duquel elle fait la connaissance de Jiao Long (Jen), la fille du gouverneur Yu, qui a été promise à un homme qu'elle n'aime pas et ferait tout pour mener une vie aussi libre que Shu Lien. Mais une fois la nuit tombée, un habile voleur parvient à dérober l'épée malgré tous les efforts de Shu Lien pour l'arrêter. Shu Lien et Li Mu Bai, qui a appris que Jade la Hyène, meurtrière de son maître, se trouve à Pékin, tentent de retrouver l'épée. Shu Lien soupçonne que le voleur n'est autre que Jiao Long et confirme ses doutes en testant les capacités de la jeune femme.
