Un fermier (Yasuo Daichi), la quarantaine passée, travaille sur la ferme de ses parents vieillissants. Il n'arrive pas à trouver de femme. Il essaie les organisations de rencontres sans succès. Dans un bar, il rencontre une jeune femme Philippines qui lui promet enfin le mariage. Ils partent ensemble voir ses parents aux Philippines. La promesse est faite, il donne l'argent pour se marier aux parents. Le lendemain, jour du mariage, il ne retrouve plus personne, ni sa promise, ni les parents. Il commence une descente aux enfers. Il se clochardise.

The film revolves around, Norman, a world-weary manager of a pier theatre in a seaside resort. In a remote village called Seokjeongni, the residents manage to learn that North Korean troops have invaded the South via the chief’s radio. Normalcy nevertheless continues for the villagers, who are all preoccupied with more pressing matters: an arranged wedding. Just a few days before the ceremony the groom is forced to flee when news breaks that Northern troops are fast capturing cities and annihilating anticommunist activists. But Seol-hee (Jung Ryeo-won) has no time to brood over her missing, beloved husband-to-be. North Korean troops arrive in town and announce their holy mission to "liberate" the Southerners.
