Prasanna (Kamal Haasan) is nursed back to health by a classical singer Bhairavi (Srividya) after a bloody street-side fight. The two are slowly drawn to each other and decide to marry in spite of their age difference and a past relationship that Bhairavi is still inextricably tied to. Selvanayakam a.k.a. Selvam (Kamal Haasan) is a poor but hard-working fisherman who is in love with Bhagyam (Sujatha) from the same fishing hamlet. Before he leaves, he hides the diamonds inside one of his children’s toys. His assistant finds out, murders Rayudu in a fit of rage and stores the body in a freezer.
