Biographie

Wheaton est le fils de Debra Nordean "Debbie" (née O'Connor), actrice, et Richard William Wheaton, Jr, médecin spécialiste. Il a un frère, Jeremy, et une sœur, Amy.

Adolescent, il est devenu célèbre grâce au film Stand by Me et son rôle dans Star Trek : La Nouvelle Génération. Dans l'ouvrage Just A Geek, publié en 2004, il se définissait lui même comme un acteur has-been. Ne réussissant pas à faire décoller sa carrière d'acteur, il cumule des petits rôles, fait des doublages, se diversifie dans l'écriture et le poker.

Sa femme, évacuée dans une navette, donne prématurément le jour à James T. Kirk. L'équipage mis en sécurité, le nouveau capitaine jette le Kelvin sur le Narada mais la défaillance du pilotage automatique l'oblige à rester sur place pour couvrir la fuite des survivants.
