Ce film parle d'un homme d'affaires vivant dans la ville de Chennai avec son fils Vishnu. Ce dernier rencontre dans un village une femme, fille d'un homme d'affaires qui est aussi de Chennai, ils tombent amoureux et se fiancent. Mais quelques jours plus tard Vishnu adopte une attitude extrêmement étrange, il tente de violer sa fiancée, sa cousine, et il tente aussi de tuer son propre père.

The film starts with Unni (Dileep), who hails from a royal family, returning from prison. He had killed the son of a large family who are now searching for him. Unni's parents take him to Chennai and enroll him in a law college. There he meets Meenakshi (Rambha) who falls in love with him. Unni had a feud with Meera's brother's gang at the college. As always, Unni wins. So they send a "killer" to break his arms, who runs away on seeing Unni. Meera falls in love with him. Unni saves Meera her brother and they become friends. Then it happens that her family members are all politicians. Soon they become family friends and they fix the marriage between Unni and Meera.Unni then narrates his flashback to Meera.

Ramanaa begins with the abduction of fifteen Tehsildars. After three days in captivity, fourteen of the officers get released. However, one of the men gets murdered. The police finds a tape recording and a file from the man's body. This evidence exposes that the kidnapping and subsequent murder were committed by members of the self-proclaimed "Anti-Corruption Force" (ACF), a citizen militia seeking to eliminate corruption by any means necessary. The militia, acting as a kangaroo court, "sentenced" officials in the area to death - beginning with the captured revenue officers who were apparently engaging in criminal activity.

The story focuses on five friends Prabu, Elango, Sundar, Indra and Priya at the Madras Institute of Technology, who want to remain friends throughout their lifespan and hope to join the same company after graduation. Once back to college he hides the fact about his marriage to his friends but later the marriage becomes public when relatives of Eshwari come to visit Elango. While their dream to work together becomes true, Elango alone gets a transfer to Bombay. The friends fight but later reunites back. Before Elango goes Bombay the friends force him to visit his wife and put him on a train. But Elango manages to get off the train and from there loses touch with his friends and family in the village.

When the movie opens Devan(Arun Pandiyan) murdering photographer Jeeva(Thalaivasal Vijay) in cold blood in his house. Jeeva strategically positions a video camera to capture the impending murder but Devan never shows his face to it. And when Jeeva shouts out the name of his killer before dying, the audio is lost at that point. While the police search for the killer, Devan zeroes in on Chetta (Saikumar) as his next target. He follows Chetta to Chandigarh but is apprehended by CBI officer Ratnavel(Vijayakanth). But once Ratnavel realises Chetta's true nature, he begins to help Devan, even hiring successful lawyer Chakravarthy(Karthik) to fight for him.
