After doctors in Seoul stitch Greg's head wound, he returns to competition and picks up two more gold medals. After his father's death and Tom's lost AIDS' battle, Greg decides to come out and go public with every aspect of his life as a gay athlete.

The movie is about a documentary team that follows the reunion of Hard Core Logo. Joe Dick gets the band back together ostensibly for an anti-gun benefit after hearing Canadian punk rock legend Bucky Haight, and personal mentor, is shot. They begin the tour in Vancouver and travel to Edmonton, via Winnipeg. On the way the band's dark secrets are revealed. John Oxenberger loses his schizophrenia medication and slowly loses his sanity. Billy Tallent finds out that by going on tour he loses his position in mainstream rock band Jenifur and with that his one shot at stardom. The band stops by Bucky Haight's reclusive estate only to find he was never shot and that Joe Dick fabricated the lie in order to get the band together. The band and documentary crew drop acid and experience hallucinations. Bucky admonishes Joe Dick for using him to get the band together. At Edmonton, Billy Tallent finds out he has another opportunity to permanently join Jenifur. Joe Dick finds out from the film crew and later attacks Billy on stage. Joe Dick destroys Billy Tallent's Fender Stratocaster, which was a gift from Bucky Haight, and the band parts ways. In the final scene Joe Dick drinks with the documentary crew members and shoots himself.

En 1972, deux garçons s'affrontent lors d'un tournoi d'échecs à Washington. Lorsque l'un des deux, David Willerman, perd la partie, ce dernier perd la raison en s'en prenant à son adversaire, Peter Sanderson, en lui transperçant la main avec un stylo plume avant d'être envoyé dans un hôpital psychiatrique. Le médecin conseille au père de l'empêcher de jouer aux échecs. Mais le mariage du jeune garçon instable prend l'eau, le père quitte alors le foyer médical, tandis que la mère, mentalement instable, se tranche les veines. Le garçonnet se rend dans la chambre de sa mère, alors agonisante, et ne prête pas attention à son appel à l'aide, préférant récupérer son échiquier enfermé dans un tiroir et jouer aux échecs. Vingt ans plus tard, Sanderson, devenu un grand champion d'échecs, retourne à Roxbridge à Wahsington afin d'y affronter de grands maîtres dans un tournoi. Il s'est installé dans une chambre d'hôtel en compagnie de sa fille, Erica, et de son mentor, Jeremy. Veuf, Sanderson tombe sous le charme de Debi Rutledge, rencontré durant le tournoi, et se rend chez elle où ils couchent ensemble. Après le départ de Peter, un homme se prétendant être lui sonne à l'interphone de l'appartement de la jeune femme. Après l'avoir laissé entrer chez elle, Debi est attaquée par l'inconnu, qui la tue. Le lendemain, le capitaine Sedman et son collègue, l'inspecteur Wagner, se rendent sur les lieux du crime et découvrent que les poignets de Debi ont été tailladés et qu'elle a été vidée de son sang, mais aussi qu'il n'y a aucune trace d'empreinte dans l'appartement, ce qui montre que le meurtrier, qui a laissé un mot comme message, a nettoyé la scène de crime.
