Masoud Kimiai (Persian: مسعود کیمیایی‎, born 29 July 1941 in Tehran) is an Iranian director, screenwriter and producer.

Biographie

Kimiai started his career as an assistant director and made his debut, Come Stranger, in 1968. With his second film, Qeysar (1969), he and Dariush Mehrjui with The film Cow, caused a historical change in Iranian film industry. But Dariush Mehrjui's film with more artistic values has sustained its level of greatness through history of Iranian cinema . Kaisar became a great success at the box office and opened the way for many young, talented filmmakers who never had a chance in the industry before. He also received many good reviews by manipulating the film critics. His films deal with people in the margin of the society with his anti-hero characters that die at the end. Many directors of commercial films imitated his Kaiser/ Qeysar for about 6 years, but in the last decade he focuses on young antagonists. He usually writes his screenplays, using slang dialogs based on ordinary traditional people’s dialect but majority of Iranians find those dialogues unrealistic and weird . In 1991 he was awarded a prize in 41st Berlin International Film Festival for his Snake Fang (Dandan-e-mar). This was not his sole international prize. At the Cairo International Filmfestival in 1979 he got from the International Catholic Organisation for Cinema (OCIC), the OCIC Prize for his film The Journey of the Stone (Safar Sang). The international OCIC jury gave its award to this film because The Journey of the Stone denounced the exploitation of mankind by mankind and called for a more just social order.
He has been married 3 times. He was married to the late Iranian pop singer Giti Pashaei until 1991, afterwards he married the Iranian pop singer Googoosh.

Seyed (Behrouz Vossoughi) est un toxicomane qui effectue de petits boulots dans un théâtre pour subvenir à sa forte dépendance. Un jour, il reçoit la visite d'un vieil ami, Ghodrat (Faramarz Gharibian), pour qui il était un modèle et un protecteur à l'adolescence. La police vient de tirer sur Ghodrat lors d'un vol à main armée qui a mal tourné et il cherche un endroit sûr où dormir provisoirement. Par conséquent, il se réfugie chez la seule personne en qui il peut avoir confiance, Seyed. Cependant, il se rend compte que le Seyed qu'il connaissait est bien loin de l'actuel Seyed. Bien qu'ils soient tous deux heureux de se retrouver après tant d'années, Ghodrat est complètement choqué de voir Seyed, autrefois responsable des cours dans une école secondaire du quartier, devenu toxicomane et vivant dans un tel état de délabrement physique et social.

Fati, une fille violée, se donne la mort en absorbant du poison. Son frère aîné, Farman, décide de se venger, mais pour ne pas briser son serrement à ne pas toucher l’arme blanche, ira à main nue se confronter l’agresseur, Mansour. Ce dernier à l’aide de ses deux frères, Karim et Rahim s’en prennent à lui, et ils le tuent. Revenant d’un voyage au sud du pays, Qeysar, le frère cadet de Farman, ira à son tour se venger. Il tue Karim dans un bain public, et Rahim dans l’abattoir. Il ira ensuite à Meched , et en retour apprend la mort de sa mère. Au cimetière, à l’aide de sa fiancée, Azam, il échappe aux policiers qui étaient déjà à sa trousse pour l’arrêter. Une danseuse de cabaret, Shahrzad lui apprend qu’il pourra trouver Mansour à la gare. Qeysar se trouve Mansour et le poignard, et il tombe aux mains des policiers qui le blessent en tirant dans sa direction.
