Mala Sinha (born 11 November 1936 in Calcutta, India) is an ethnic Nepali actress who has worked in Hindi, Bengali and Nepali films. Recognised for her talent and beauty, she went on to become a popular leading actress in Hindi films from the early 1950s until the late 1970s. Sinha has starred in over a hundred film productions: popular ones include Pyaasa (1957), Dhool Ka Phool (1959), Anpadh, Dil Tera Deewana ( both 1962), Gumrah (1963), Himalaya Ki God Mein (1965) and Aankhen (1968).

Biographie

Sinha married her co-star from Nepali films, Chidambar Prasad Lohani in 1968. The couple met when they worked together in the Nepali film Maiti Ghar (1966). Lohani had an estate agency business. After her marriage, she used to come and stay in Mumbai to shoot films while her husband stayed in Nepal running his business. She has one daughter from the marriage: Pratibha Sinha, who is a former Bollywood actress. From the late 1990s, the couple and their daughter have been residing in a bungalow in Bandra, Mumbai.

A rich widow Sulakshana Devi (Mala Sinha) lives with her son Ravi (Vijayendra Ghatge) and care-taker Balwant (Prem Chopra). One day, she receives the news that her son has died in a car accident. Babu is a young man who works as a rickshaw puller and he has fallen in love with Kammo.His only true friend is Shambu Nath.One day he helps Shankerlal and his family and in return Shankerlal invites him to his house.Instantly the whole family including Shankerlal's wife and Pinky both begin to shower love on Babu. Babu having led a tough childhood feels very ecstatic and feels grateful to Shankerlal on having provided him food,clothes and more importantly respect given to him. Meanwhile a goon in the village rapes Kammo and Babu kills him and thereby lands in jail. After his release he finds Pinky begging in the streets and then he gets shocked as to how a rich girl has been forced to beg. Then he realises that now Pinky's mother is a widow. His sole aim now becomes to help this widow and her child. He gives up his personal life, drives a hand-drawn rickshaw, saves some money, so that he can buy provisions for them, as well as send the child, Pinky, to a decent school. Pinky then grows up and later starts disliking Babu.The rest of the story is how Pinky realises her folly later on, how Pinky's mother feels indebted to Babu for having helped them in return for one nights shower of affection on Babu by Shankerlal.

Naseeb, a story of destiny and fate, begins with a lottery ticket. A drunk who cannot pay his tab trades: so he decides to sell his ticket to the waiter, Namdev (Pran), instead. Namdev purchases this ticket with his three friends Damu (Amjad Khan), Raghu (Kader Khan) and Jaggi (Jagdish Raj). Using a system of drawing out the highest card to decide who keeps the ticket, Jaggi wins, and the ticket stays with him. When the ticket turns out to be a winner, Damu and Raghu turn on the other two, murdering Jaggi and framing Namdev. Namdev goes on the run but Raghu and Damu intervene and throw him over a bridge into a river and Namdev is presumed dead.
