Leon Schuster, né le 21 mai 1951, est un réalisateur, acteur, humoriste et chanteur sud-africain, issu de la communauté afrikaner.

Biographie

Diplômé de l’Université de l’État libre d'Orange, Leon Schuster a commencé sa carrière d'abord comme un chanteur de musique populaire de langue afrikaans.

Il s'est aussi fait connaitre comme interprète comique de films de caméras cachés exploités au cinéma au niveau international (série des You must be Jocking) et pour la réalisation de comédies. Il est présenté souvent comme le successeur de Jamie Uys en tant que roi du film comique en Afrique du Sud. Certains de ses films comme There's a Zulu On My Stoep ("il y a un zoulou sur ma terrasse") sont aussi soupçonnés parfois d’une forme d’inconscient raciste. Néanmoins, les films de Schuster attirent le plus grand nombre de spectateurs sud-africains depuis le début des années 1990.

Mr. Bones 2: Back from the Past takes place in 1879, and the titular Character is the great great grandfather of the Mr. Bones from the first film. It is the story of Hekule, the King of Kuvukiland who is given a gemstone by the dying Kunji Balanadin. The stone is cursed and causes Hekule to become possessed by the spirit of the mischievous Kunji, which Bones describes as "wild rider". It is up to Mr. Bones to cure his King and get rid of this cursed stone by travelling 130 years into the future, in the city of Durban. They meet a woman named Reshmi who gave them important clues to the gem and returning the gem to its home in an Indian fishing village named Ataram.

Set in Cape Town, South Africa Mama Jack is the story of Jack Theron, an ordinary person working on a film set as a grip. Also, we see a Schuster version of Saddam Hussein, called Samoosa Woestyn (ruler of fictional Afkaq) who plans to kill U.S. President George W. Bush at a worldwide country conference. After being in hiding for a year he comes out as a midget. This is when he and his associate Ali go to the conference to get Bush. In the night, Shucks pulls his maid Precious into the jacuzzi and gives her everything he owns, though he cannot remember this the next morning because he was drunk. Samoosa and Ali also fall as another bunch of victims in Shucks' prank list when they are scared by an ash tray that explodes. They are going to be in his new movie, which everybody in South Africa will be viewing.

The film begins in Kuvukiland, an undeveloped kingdom somewhere in Africa. Mr. Bones arrives as a baby, the sole survivor of an airplane crash that happens nearby. He grows older and becomes the bone-throwing prophesier for the kingdom. King Tsonga, ruler of Kuvukiland, longs for a male child to be heir to the throne. After having seventeen children, all of them girls, he gives up hope, until he remembers fathering a boy decades before in Sun City. He immediately sends Mr. Bones to find the future prince.

In South Africa, Sweet Coetzee wins an award for 20 years service as a sportscaster on his 40th birthday, beating his rival, pompous George "The Weasle" Weedle. After Sweet gets drunk one night at his birthday party, he misses a sportscast and his boss, Bryce Williams demotes him to interviewer and promotes Weedle. Through the next part of the film we see that Sweet is reckless as he openly says his girlfriend, Sandy is "the best bum in the business". A subplot of the film are two robbers, "Bossy" and "Savage" who the main characters remain remotely unaware of as they are just a comic theme. Sweet pulls a prank on Weedle during a golf game and is suspended for six month. Sweet also records Weedle having humorous intercourse with a prostitute, "The Orphan in a Storm". Sweet then decides to drown his sorrows in a casino at the slot machines, where he tricks a small boy, Alfred "Shorty" Short into thinking he is a genie. Bossy and Savage try to rob the casino when they accidentally break the disco ball and it knocks Sweet unconscious just as he hits the jackpot.
