John Bach (born 5 June 1946) is a New Zealand actor who has acted on stage, television and film over a period of more than three decades. Though born in Wales, he has spent most of his career living and working in New Zealand.
International audiences are most likely to have seen Bach as the Gondorian Ranger Madril in the second and third movies of The Lord of the Rings film trilogy (2001–2003). His leading roles in New Zealand television include playing the titular Detective Inspector John Duggan in the Duggan telemovies and television series, one of the truckdriving brothers in series Roche, and time on long-running soap opera Close to Home. In 1992 he starred as Scottish inventor Alexander Graham Bell in awardwinning telemovie The Sound and the Silence. In 1999 he played the Earl of Sackville in an episode of the TV miniseries A Twist in the Tale.
Bach's Australian work includes science fiction series Farscape, playing Mike Power in based on a true story mini-series The Great Bookie Robbery (1986), and as Sir Ian Hamilton in the 2015 TV miniseries Gallipoli.
In 2010 Bach appeared in NZ science fiction series This Is Not My Life as the sinister Harry Sheridan, as magistrate Titus Calavius in Spartacus: Blood and Sand and in an episode of Legend of the Seeker.
He has also appeared in several New Zealand films, including Utu, Carry Me Back, Goodbye Pork Pie, Pallet on the Floor, Old Scores (in which he had a central role), and Beyond Reasonable Doubt.

Dans notre monde, un an s'est écoulé depuis que les quatre enfants (Lucy, Edmund, Susan et Peter) sont revenus de Narnia. On les retrouve à Londres, en 1941, alors qu'ils se rendent à leurs écoles respectives pour une nouvelle année scolaire. Mais tout à coup ils sont happés, et se retrouvent dans une île qu'ils n'ont jamais vue auparavant. En explorant l'île, ils découvrent le palais où ils étaient rois et reines, dans le passé. Le temps est passé beaucoup plus vite à Narnia que dans notre monde. Près de 1300 ans se sont écoulés. Ils apprennent alors ce qui s'est passé pendant leur absence : Narnia a été envahie par les Telmarins, anciens pirates arrivés à Narnia par hasard, la magie a presque disparu et la plupart des animaux ne parlent plus. Mais quelques nains et quelques animaux parlants vivent encore cachés. Pour remettre les choses dans l'ordre, il faudrait rendre au prince Caspian le trône qui lui a été usurpé par son oncle, le roi Miraz, qui règne en despote sur les Telmarins et sur l'ensemble de Narnia.

Les hobbits Frodon et Sam continuent leur route vers le Mordor, guidés par l'étrange Gollum. Leur plan est de passer par le haut col de Cirith Ungol mais ils ignorent encore que Gollum les mène droit à un piège mortel. De leur côté, les autres membres de la Communauté de l'Anneau, accompagnés par Gandalf, se retrouvent en Isengard au pied de la tour d'Orthanc, où Saroumane et son complice Gríma sont retenus prisonniers par les Ents. C'est là que Gandalf met la main sur le palantír de Saroumane avant que toute la compagnie ne reparte vers Edoras pour y fêter la victoire. Au cours de la nuit, poussé par sa curiosité, le Hobbit Pippin regarde dans le palantír, et se révèle à l'Œil de Sauron. Il y voit Minas Tirith, la cité blanche du Gondor, détruite et l'arbre blanc en feu. Cet aperçu du plan de l'ennemi pousse Gandalf à se rendre de toute urgence à Minas Tirith pour donner l'alarme.

Après être entrés en Emyn Muil, Frodon Sacquet et Sam Gamegie rencontrent la créature Gollum, qui essaye de leur voler l'Anneau par la force. Vaincu, il promet aux Hobbits de les guider jusqu'au Mordor. Après avoir traversé l'Emyn Muil et les marais des Morts, ils arrivent à la Morannon, la « Porte Noire » de Mordor. Cependant, elle est trop bien protégée pour qu'ils entrent par là et Gollum leur propose de leur montrer le chemin secret de Cirith Ungol. Pendant le voyage, ils rencontrent une troupe avancée du Gondor, dirigée par Faramir, fils de l'Intendant Denethor II et frère de Boromir. Il les fait prisonniers et découvre qu'ils portent l'Anneau unique. Il décide alors de les mener devant son père, mais, en traversant la cité détruite d'Osgiliath, les soldats du Gondor sont confrontés aux forces de Sauron menées par des Nazgûl. Se rendant compte du pouvoir maléfique de l'Anneau sur Frodon, qui a presque été pris par un des Nazgûl, Faramir se résout à les libérer pour qu'ils accomplissent leur mission.

The film starts at an anniversary commemoration of the crash, where roses are dropped on the track to the aftermath of the wreck where first responders are arriving at the scene. Five months later the coroner, Tom Weir, brings in Boris Osman, an engineer to help him investigate the crash and immediately runs into stonewalling by the state-owned rail company, who don’t want him to examine the train. Osman thinks it’s because the investigation will have to disclose why the tracks that caused the wreck were in such bad shape. Osman thinks it was caused by the politicians in office allowing the rail system to deteriorate. The coroner learns the bridge was hit twice before. Pressure begins to be brought on the coroner from above to stop asking to look at the train. Osman learns this is the third time this locomotive went off the rails. The coroner uses the threat of contempt of court to force the rail company to let Osman examine the locomotive. The inquest begins, with Orman recounting how the tragedy happened on 18 January 1977, alternating with the stories of some passengers who traveled on the ill-fated train, leading up to the depiction of the accident. Due to worn out track and worn out wheels on the locomotive, it jumps the rails and hits a bridge support, causing it to collapse on the train. The community springs into action to aid the survivors and recover the 83 dead. Several of the rescuers testify at the inquest and recount their actions on the day of the accident. Many rescuers risk their own lives to save the injured. Even when ordered to leave due to the danger of further collapse, many refuse to abandon injured survivors. Many of the rescuers are traumatized by what they saw. Ormond comes under attack for saying that it was the condition of the locomotive’s wheels that contributed to the accident, since while money has been allocated to repair the tracks, there is no money to also repair the locomotives. The families of the dead try to cope, while Gerry Buchtman, who went to Granville while on sick leave from his emergency responder job has to fight to keep his job, since the powers that be want to fire him for doing just that. In spite of pressure, the coroner finds that the locomotive’s condition contributed to the accident. Osman later learns that even though the rail company knew this type of locomotive was dangerous due to a derailment 11 months before Granville, they took no steps to lower the speed on this line because it came from an electoral district that often decided national elections and the government did not want to anger the voters by making their train late. We return to the memorial service, while on screen captions tell us what happened to some of the people involved in the crash and the investigation.
