Hridaynath Mangeshkar is a composer/singer from India known for his eclectic compositions and a well-respected body of work. He is the younger brother of Indian music icons Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle. He is popularly known as Balasaheb in the music and film industry.
Hridaynath debuted his music career in 1955 with the Marathi film Akash Ganga. Since then he has composed for Marathi films such as Sansar, Jait Re Jait, Umbartha, Nivdung and a few Hindi films, the most notable among them being Lekin... and Maya Memsaab.
He joined the political party of Shiv Sena in 2009.

Biographie
Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar is the only son of Deenanath Mangeshkar, who belongs to a Brahmin father and mother belonging to Gomantak Maratha Samaj. The family's last name used to be Hardikar; Deenanath changed it to Mangeshkar. He is the younger brother of Indian music icons Lata Mangeshkar, Usha Mangeshkar, Mrs. Meena Khadikar and Asha Bhosle. He is married to Bharati Malvankar Mangeshkar, daughter of famous Marathi comedy actor Damuanna Malvankar. They have two sons Aadinath and Vaijnath, and a daughter Radha.Hridaynath debuted his music career in 1955 with the Marathi film Akash Ganga. Since then he has composed for Marathi films such as Sansar, Jait Re Jait, Umbartha, Nivdung and a few Hindi films, the most notable among them being Lekin... and Maya Memsaab.

Vinod Kumar (Dilip Kumar) is an upright and honest man, who runs a newspaper named "Mashaal". Vinod exposes the ills in the society with help of his newspaper. Vinod's wife, Sudha (Waheeda Rehman), sees a vagabond named Raja (Anil Kapoor) and tries to instill some values and culture in him. Vinod is sceptical about this, but accepts when Raja tells them of his tragic childhood and comes to regard Sudha as a maternal figure. Finally, Vinod decides to help Raja by sending him to Bangalore to complete his education and become a journalist. During frequent meetings with Vinod and Sudha, Raja befriends Geeta (Rati Agnihotri), an aspiring journalist and an assistant in Vinod's paper, and they fall in love.

Sulabha Mahajan (played by Smita Patil) is a woman who dreams to step out of the four walls of the house, assume greater responsibility as a citizen and play an important role in shaping the society. She has passion to do something constructive for the abused, assaulted, neglected and traumatized womenfolk of the society she lives in. She gets a job offer as Superintendent of a Women's Reformatory Home in a remote town of Sangamwadi. The job offer raises objections from her lawyer husband Subhash (played by Girish Karnad) and conservative mother-in-law who refuse to understand her need to move to the town and work for rehabilitation of the women. Vijay (Rajesh Khanna) is a very proud rich man who thinks money can buy anything. He harbors love for Asha and tries to win her but she rejects him for his arrogance. He gets angry as well as disappointed when Asha marries an account clerk instead. Soon after he is involved in car accident in which he loses his eyesight completely, and the doctor thinks Vijay will need a new pair of eyes. Vijay orders for eyes, but it isn't as simple as Vijay thought, the doctor explains to him that it's difficult to find an eye donor. That is when Vijay realizes that money cannot buy everything in life. Then he starts believing in God and starts chanting prayers. Only a few days after, he finds a donor and his eyes are operated upon. Now Vijay can see and he also has realized that money is indeed very useless in certain circumstances.

The story revolves around a tribal caste called the Thakar. Nagya (Mohan Agashe) is a drummer who has a passion for being a "pure one" (punyavant). He meets Chindhi (Smita Patil), who has abandoned her husband as she considers him useless. They both fall in love and strive hard to be united. Once when Nagya goes to jungle for wood-cutting, a queen honey bee attacks him and one of his eyes is injured. He decides to take revenge. The beehives are located high on a nearby difficult to climb peak {Lingoba}. He decides to cut all the beehives so that the queen-bee runs away. Meanwhile, Chindhi becomes pregnant with Nagya, but she still supports his dangerous attempt to climb the peak. Nagya then climbs the peak and cuts the hives. Chindhi is waiting at the base of the peak, but the disturbed honey-bees attack her and she dies in the incident. Nagya, in search of Queen honey-bee, loses his own queen[wife] in the end. This is a classic paradox, where he succeeds (Jait re jait, means WIN-WIN) in his revenge, but loses wife.
