Il incarne le personnage de Felix Leiter à deux reprises dans la saga James Bond, d'abord avec Roger Moore dans Vivre et laisser mourir (1973), puis avec Timothy Dalton dans Permis de Tuer (1989), le rôle de Leiter ayant été précédemment interprété par Jack Lord dans Docteur No (1962) et Cec Linder dans Goldfinger (1964), puis repris plus récemment par Jeffrey Wright dans Casino Royale (2006) et Quantum of Solace (2008).Ses meilleurs films

Stuart Davis (David Hedison), running against the Vice-President, plans a trip to the Balkans to negotiate the release of American servicemen being held hostage by terrorists. Before he leaves, he receives a disk documenting evidence that the Vice-President has been trying to revive the American economy by causing a war in the Balkans. He announces his plans at Washington Dulles International Airport to show it to both sides in the hopes of ending the situation. He boards Concorde flight 209 to Paris along with some Air Force Officers and news employees. Unexpected Secret Service agents turn up and board the Concorde. After takeoff, the secret service agents led by Barry Rogers (Michael Dorn) shoot an Air Force officer and his men hijack the Concorde in mid-flight. Rogers takes Stuart Davis and the others hostage and forces him to hand over the disk in order to prevent the war being averted. In the cockpit, Rogers announces to the Dulles International Airport air traffic controller that the agents are armed with a nuclear device and threaten to crash the Concorde into Paris.

Bond se trouve à Key West, en Floride, aux côtés de Felix Leiter. Mais cette fois, ils ne sont pas en mission : Felix se marie et James Bond et son ami Sharky sont ses témoins. Mais un hélicoptère de la brigade des stupéfiants les arrête : Leiter apprend que Franz Sanchez est sur le territoire américain, or, l'agent de la CIA poursuit cet insaisissable parrain de la drogue depuis des années. Retrouvant les réflexes de la bonne époque de leur collaboration, Leiter et Bond réussissent à capturer Sanchez à l'issue d'une poursuite aérienne spectaculaire. Une fois Sanchez aux mains de la police américaine, il ne reste plus au futur marié et à son témoin qu'à sauter en parachute au-dessus de l'église. Mais la victoire de Leiter est de courte durée. Sanchez qui a offert une prime de deux millions de dollars à quiconque le libérera, s'évade.

Bond est sur le point d'être tué, mais est sauvé in extremis par Felix Leiter.
