Alejandro Springall is a Mexican film director and producer.
Springall studied filmmaking at the London Film School. He returned to Mexico City in 1991 and started working with Mexican film producer Bertha Navarro, from whom he learned most of his producing skills. Springall started his career as a producer, but in 1996 he directed his first feature film, Santitos. Since 1996 Springall has been collaborating with John Sayles, Maggie Renzi and Lemore Syvan. Results of that collaboration have been: Men with Guns, directed by Sayles, produced by Renzi, where Springall translated the script into Spanish and played a small role next to Federico Luppi; Santitos was executive produced by Sayles, Renzi and Syvan; Casa de los Babys, directed by Sayles was produced by Syvan and Springall; Morirse está en hebreo (My Mexican Shivah) was executive produced by Sayles, Renzi and Syvan; and Springall's new project, Air & Fire, was re-written by Sayles.
In 2003, Springall produced and directed the grand concert of Chavela Vargas at Carnegie Hall, New York; and in 2004, he directed the grand concert of Chavela Vargas at Luna Park Stadium, Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Dr. Fuentes (Federico Luppi) is a medical professor/doctor near his retirement and his wife has recently died. He taught a group of seven -he views this as one of his greatest accomplishments- that trains young people to provide health care to impoverished citizens in the outlying hill country, where small agricultural communities struggle to survive. It is not until he begins his journey that he discovers a world much different than the one he had imagined existing for his students as he finds himself encountering guerrillas and soldiers.

Un antiquaire, grand-père d'une fillette orpheline, découvre par hasard un curieux scarabée en or dans le socle d'une statue d'ange en bois, qu'il est en train de nettoyer dans sa boutique. L'objet intrigue d'autant plus ce professionnel qu'il présente une petite molette. Curieux de comprendre la fonction de ce qui ne semble être qu'un gros bijou en forme de galet tenant parfaitement dans la paume de main, le vieil homme (dont le nom est "Jesús Gris") tourne avec précaution la molette qui n'ouvre pas le scarabée mais se révèle être un remontoir activant un mouvement d'horlogerie ... le compte à rebours vers une forme particulière de "dépendance" est enclenché. Le scarabée ne s'ouvre pas, ce n'est pas une boîte précieuse et décorative, mais c'est quand même une boîte de Pandore au mécanisme très sophistiqué.
