Vadeesha Devaminda Wickramanayaka is a highly creative and sensitive young music student in his school. A special love letter that he finds accidentally, written by Punya, a woman, more mature than him in both age and life, motivates him for some soul searching. He is also haunted by guilt, because he fails to deliver the letter, to who it belongs.His relentless efforts to return the letter to the woman to her lover, fail. Sympathy mixed with emotions of love he feels towards this woman, leads to him creating a song that captures a cathartic experience. This popular creation and many other songs that he gives birth to, for a period of 20 years, makes him a prominent musician in the country. But however, his memories and nostalgia towards Punya make him a failure in his married life. Although he regains his life by returning the letter to Punya after 20 years by chance, she is now left with a feeling of void her life.

The heroine of the story (played by Udari Warnakulasuriya) is a violinist, and the hero (played by Amila Abesekara) is a guitarist. Their romance is set against ethnic issues between the Sinhalese and Tamil people of Sri Lanka. The heroine's father is a politician and mayor of a city in the hill country. The hero's mother, Sakunthala, is a rich and noble woman from Colombo. Sakunthala goes to the hill country city seeking revenge on her former lover who deserted her 25 years ago. When the mayor finds that his daughter is in love with Sakunthala's son, he makes every effort to break up their romance. Sakunthala also attempts to break up the young couple since she knows that the mayor is her son's father. However, the mayor's wife reveals a secret which allows the young lovers to reunite and teaches a lesson in ethnic harmony.

The film starts in a room full of bomb making material and newspaper articles about LTTE bombings in Sri Lanka, the screen then cuts to a typical busy morning in Colombo. "The Man" (Ben Kingsley) plants five bombs around the city; on a public bus, in a shopping mall and the Polgoda police station, on an intercity train, and at the Katukurunda Airfield. The man then establishes his mini control station on top a skyscraper in Dehiwala and calls the police chief Morris Da Silva (Ben Cross) and informs him that if four prisoners are not released, the bombs will be detonated.

The plot is a story of two youths who are engaged on a soul searching mission. D (played by Prasanna Mahaganage) is a youth of 29 who is frustrated with life not having a reason to live. Kathy is waiting for a call from her boyfriend to confirm that he still needs her, but the call never comes. D and Kathy spend a day waiting, yet nothing happens. D and Kathy make desperate attempts to reveal their emotions to each other, but they soon realize that they have forgotten the language of connectivity. However, D began to create dreams around her. Unable to face the trauma of nothingness and emptiness, Kathy leaves, leaving D behind in a state more heartbroken than before and waiting for her to return.

A LTTE carder called "Kamala Velaithan" is surrendered to the Sri Lanka Army and she was handed over to captain "Wasantha" in order to bring her to colombo IBM headquarters. She has important inside information for the army which would lead to an attack on the LTTE leader. Her brother was killed by the LTTE for trying to desert it. When they started the journey the jeep was attacked by LTTE. So both of them leave there and arrives Periyumbutur by a boat. Then, due to the attack faced before, his head is injured. So she wraps his head with a cloth and says not to speak anything. Both pass LTTE & ARMY points and continue the journey. Meanwhile both fall love immensely with each other.
