Marco Salviati (Giulio Scarpati) travaille comme vendeur de voiture à Vérone dans l'entreprise familiale, auprès de sa femme, de son père et de son frère. Après la mort de son père, il part à la recherche de son frère qui a disparu sans laisser de traces, emportant avec lui une forte somme d'argent appartenant à la société. Il se rend d'abord à Pérouse afin d'y rencontrer Elena Bacchelli (Margherita Buy), la petite amie de son frère. Sans nouvelles de son concubin, elle se décide alors à accompagner Marco dans ses recherches. Ils voyagent ensemble, rencontrant une improbable galerie de personnages alors que, peu à peu, naît entre eux une idylle amoureuse .

Francesco is a Tuscan very good at playing American pool, so much so that he is nicknamed "Mr. Quindicipalle", from the time he pocketed fifteen ("quindici") balls ("palle") at the same time, using the wooden handle of a broom to cue. Francesco also has to be an expert womanizer, like his father, who died recently. Indeed Francesco meets the woman of his dreams going to find the father to the cemetery. There, Francesco meets a prostitute who calls herself "Sissi". The two fall in love, and so Francesco thinks she might be a lucky charm for him, because Francesco is training for a big tournament of American billiards. But Sissi is still a prostitute, and so she makes infuriates many times Francesco, compromising his skill and his training for the tournament.

Three amateur actors in theater are chased away by their performance, because the satirically subject from their complaint treates in a controversial manner the cruelty of the Nazis. The three actors take refuge in a rural country where they, having the bright idea to recite a sacred drama on the birth of Jesus Christ, have to interpret the three Biblical Magi. The show is so successful and magically the villagers give birth to a son on Christmas Eve for every family, and there the faith in Jesus is regained.
