Tokyo: The Last War (帝都大戦) is a tokusatsu dark fantasy/historical fiction film directed by Takashige Ichise and distributed by Toho Studios. It is an adaptation of the eleventh book (Great War in the Capital) of the Teito Monogatari novel by Hiroshi Aramata. It is the second cinematic adaptation of the Teito Monogatari series and is a sequel to Tokyo: The Last Megalopolis.

Synopsis

The sequel begins in 1945, during a period extensive American firebombing over major Japanese cities. Desperate to end the war quickly, the government concocts a plan to eliminate major key leaders of each country. With the support of the Japanese government, the Buddhist shaman Kan’nami Kouou (Tetsuro Tamba) plans to curse the leaders of the Allied forces using magic. Unfortunately, the spirits of those civilians who were horribly killed during the fire bombings culminate together and reincarnate Yasunori Kato (Kyusaku Shimada), the demonic Onmyoji who was suppressed 20 years ago. Once again, Kato wants Tokyo to suffer for its crimes and sets off to stop Kouou’s plan from succeeding so that the war will continue and Tokyo will be destroyed. To challenge Kato, Kouou has hired a young man, Yuko Nakamura (Masaya Kato), who has incredible psychic abilities. During the course of the story, Nakamura meets and falls in love with Yukiko Tatsumiya (Kaho Minami), who is now working as a nurse in a War Victims Hospital and still suffering from traumatic memories of abuse as a child by Kato. The young psychic is unable to contend with Kato’s mighty powers and after several battles (the final involving his power being enhanced through artificial means), he is nearly killed. Despite nearing death, Yukiko’s love gives Nakamura enough strength to perform one last trick which successfully destroys Kato’s physical body. Meanwhile, Kouou realizes that Japan is doomed to lose the war. Thus he changes targets, sparing the Allied leaders, and launching a psychic attack against Adolf Hitler which drives Hitler to commit suicide in his bunker. Yukiko prays to Masakado to seal away Kato’s soul forever.

Pour cela, le diabolique personnage va tenter de réveiller Masakado qui, selon la légende, entrera dans une colère telle qu'il détruira tout ce qu'il a contribué à créer. Kato part dès lors en quête d'une enveloppe humaine capable d'accueillir la réincarnation de la divinité caractérielle.

Il s’agit d’une adaptation «live» d’un manga culte en douze volumes, édité entre 1988 et 1990… Cette œuvre papier, dont le scénario est signé Takajo Masahiko et les dessins Tetsuya Saruwatari, nous conte les aventures ou plutôt mésaventures d’un certain Riki-Oh Saiga. Le jeune homme reçut dès son enfance un enseignement rigoureux lui permettant bien vite de devenir un véritable Maître dans l’art du Qigong. Chose plutôt bienvenue puisqu’une fois adulte, un gang de Yakuza tue sa petite amie. While on his morning jog, Gai Ikari finds the sky suddenly turning dark as a massive ship emerges from the clouds. Becoming Gokai Silver to investigate in Gojyu Rex, Gai is shocked to find what seemed to be Gokaioh appearing from the ship and attacking him. Later, aboard the Gokai Galleon, the crew identify the mysterious vessel as the space-wandering ghost ship said to carry a fabled treasure known as the God Eye—which can grant any wish to its holder. Seeing this as a better opportunity to obtain the Greatest Treasure in the Universe regardless of the risks, the Gokai Galleon crew embark on a voyage to find the ghost ship and acquire the God Eye. The Gokai Galleon locates the ghost ship and makes port in its skull figurehead's mouth. After encountering a trio of annoying ghosts who unknowingly pointed them in the right direction, the Gokai Galleon crew reach the ship's main bridge and see the God Eye resting on the left eye of a giant skull. However, they are stopped by the ship's captain Los Dark, who reveals that he was luring would-be thieves to his lair as he sends the crew into a dimensional underworld so his minions can kill them and allow him to live again.
