Red Lines (Inside the Battle for Freedom in Syria) est un film documentaire américain et syrien réalisé par Andrea Kalin et Oliver Lukacs sorti en 2014.

Il décrit la guerre civile en Syrie et les efforts des activistes Mouaz Moustafa et Razan Shalab-al-Sham pour sensibiliser l'opinion internationale et promouvoir la démocratie.

Le titre du film vient de l'expression souvent utilisée par le président Obama pour décrire la « ligne rouge » à ne pas franchir.

Synopsis

In 2011, protests against Syrian president Bashar al-Assad turned into a violent conflict between the Syrian government and revolutionaries. As the revolution continues, wealthy Syrian socialite-turned-activist Razan teams up with Syrian-American lobbyist Mouaz to forge a link between the Free Syrian Army, the Syrian Emergency Task Force, and the West. However, their goal of a free and democratic Syria is put under strain as the revolution in Syria turns from bad to worse, and Western governments prove reluctant to get involved, despite the growing humanitarian crisis.

The film focuses on two young rap artists, Subliminal, an Israeli Jew, and Tamer Nafar, a Palestinian citizen of Israel, and focuses on their music, friendship, and their politicization as public figures. The film traces the relationship between Tamer and Subliminal, as the events of the Second Intifada unfold, and lets the viewer draw conclusions from the souring relations between the two as an individual representation of the polarization process which took place during these years of bloody conflict. In this aspect, the film succeeds in delivering the atmosphere of the loss of hopes for peace after the failure of the Camp David summit between Ehud Barak and Yasser Arafat and the renewed intensity of the conflict since. The film was featured in the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival.
